Welcome to my first "Playlist Friday"! This is something I have been doing for years with my friends on my own personal sns as a way to introduce them to the music I was listening to as of lately.
This week I posted a "do my makeup with me" video, and someone asked for a playlist of the songs I was listening to, so this first installment is dedicated to you!
For all of my adolescence, I was raised in a mixed raced household consisting of my Liberian- American mother, and her Puerto Rican Ex-Husband. This means that I got the best of both worlds with amazing food and culture, I was able to be exposed to a lot of great music.
I had heard classics like 'Gasolina' by Daddy Yankee, or 'No Te Veo' by Casa De Leones and loved them (of course), so as I got older, I got more into reggaeton and Latin music in general. The genre quickly became one of my favorites and has allowed me to open my eyes more to Latin America and the cultures I might have known nothing about if it weren't for the people I surround myself around, and my passion for various cultures.
Enough with my background to reggaeton, let's get into the playlist! This playlist is called "yo perreo sola", which was inspired by the title of one of my favorite Bad Bunny songs. This playlist has a mix of songs categorized as either Reggaeton, or "Latin Urban" with iconic songs for newer artists like Karol G, or older artists like Plan B. You can listen to Yo Perreo Sola here, but for right now, here are my top three Reggaeton songs featured in the playlist.
1. Candy -Plan B
We start my list off strong with an older classic from the cousin duo themselves. this song releasing in 2013 basically talks about a woman who loves to drink, party, surround herself with suitors, and take part in adult activities with them. It's simply just a fun song with a fun beat, and that's all it takes for me to get up and groove.
2. Yo Perreo Sola- Bad Bunny
Next, is the song that was previously mentioned to be the inspo for this playlist. From Bad Bunny's hit album "YHLQMDLG", this song was everywhere. The title translates to " I twerk alone" and talks about a woman who prefers to be alone romantically and enjoys the fun things in life, which in this case is dancing, being the life of the party, and being in casual relationships that won't hold her down. she used to be ignored and not sought after, but she's changed and enjoys her new fast life. I might be biased because Bad Bunny does say my name in the song, but it definitely will always be one of my favorite songs always.
3. Pa' Que La Pases Bien- Arcangel
Lastly, I just have to end this list with my 'self-proclaimed' theme song. This song not only personally, but literally is about having a good time and being you. the title roughly translates to "(so) you have a good time" and that is simply what the song is. A good time. the song talks about how Arcangel has his confidence, which allows him to have a good time and attracts ladies and people to him. the song all around just is a fun reminder to just go out and carry yourself in a good way, and the fun will follow you. definitely a message to adopt as the summer arrives.
